Stripping Back & Re-Building

It has been 6 months since I made my return to LlCF, how time flies!  I hope you’ll agree that we’ve come a long way in such a short period of time … I promise you that this is only the beginning.

As we enter lent this coming week, a time of spiritual stripping back, a time of clearing out and re-adjusting our focus as we journey toward Easter, we also enter a time of stripping back, practically within church.  We are full steam ahead with our building refurbishment plans, with a few minor adjustments.  Please see the back page for more details of the help we need and how you can be involved.

This years lent will be extremely significant for us as a church as we re-focus and consider our calling.  We will be physically stripping back, clearing out the cupboards, ditching the unnecessary and preparing ourselves for new life as a church.  We will also be spiritually stripping back throughout lent, going back to basics with our teaching.  We will be looking at the foundations of our faith, the non-negotiable elements as we re-build in every way.

As I’m writing this and considering the road ahead, I’m reminded of the verses at the beginning of Hebrews 12:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith”

Coming directly after the great chapter about all those prominent people of faith who endured and persevered, the writer is setting an example before us and reminding us of the legacy that we are called to follow.  As we enter this forming time as a church let’s make sure we keep ‘the main thing, the main thing’.  Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus, stripping back and re-building for an exciting future.  Pob Bendith, Ben
